Godfreys to Acquire Golf & Turf Equipment, Wokingham

PRESS RELEASE

Godfreys, the Kent and Sussex based John Deere Turfcare dealer has reached agreement, subject to contract, to acquire the trade and the assets of Golf & Turf Equipment Ltd, the Berkshire based John Deere Turfcare dealer.  Golf & Turf Equipment is a leading provider of commercial grounds maintenance equipment and has represented John Deere since 1987, the last 20 under the ownership of the Burdens Group. Turfleet Hire, a division of Golf and Turf Equipment Ltd will, however, remain as part of the Burdens Group, with Mark Noble continuing to lead this business.  Turfleet Hire will continue to operate out of the existing Reading premises with telephone numbers remaining unchanged. The Wokingham based dealership will initially continue to operate from the existing site with all staff transferring and trade under the name of Godfreys Golf & Turf.  The John Deere agency will also transfer. “We are delighted with the acquisition of Golf & Turf Equipment as it is a first class dealership with strong brand values” says Peter Bateman, Managing Director of Godfreys. “We believe this acquisition will enable us to offer outstanding levels of customer service and excellent value to our customers across the combined territories.” In 2009 Godfreys acquired Palmers Turfcare, the Sussex based John Deere Turfcare dealer, and the enlarged business, including Golf & Turf Equipment will employ 70 staff.  “This deal strengthens our dealership presence in the south-east of England,” says Joedy Ibbotson, John Deere’s UK & Ireland Turfcare Divisional Manager. “Both Godfreys and Golf & Turf Equipment are established businesses with a strong focus on first class customer and product support and this acquisition is consistent with our Dealer of Tomorrow strategy, reflecting our continued efforts to build the strongest dealership network for turf equipment in the UK.”

It is expected that the deal will conclude in early January.
