Q: Can I charge AK batteries with an AP charger?

Q: What do the flashing LED lights on my Stihl AK battery mean?
Your battery uses four LEDs to communicate its status:
1 LED Flashing Green: The battery is low on charge and needs to be connected to your AL charger.
1 LED Glowing Red: The battery is too hot or too cold. Allow it to reach room temperature (approx. 15°C–20°C).
3 LEDs Glowing/Flashing Red: There is a fault in the tool or the battery is overheated from heavy use.
4 LEDs Flashing Red: The battery has a malfunction and should be brought into our Sevenoaks service centre for a diagnostic check.
Q: Can I leave my AK battery on the charger once it hits 100%?
Yes. Stihl AL 101, AL 301, and AL 500 chargers feature automatic shut-off. Once the battery is fully charged, the charger stops drawing current, so you cannot “overcharge” it. However, for long-term storage, we recommend keeping the battery at 2 LEDs (approx. 40-60% charge).
Q: How do the AK 10, AK 20, and AK 30 S compare in power?
While all three provide the same 36V of power, they differ in energy capacity (Watt-hours).
